Rows of healthy cannabis plants in a commercial greenhouse

SBJ Consulting · Since 2011

Boof-proof your operation, brand & compliance.

What is boof? Low-quality cannabis. The stuff that limps in with passed microbial tests and inflated THC numbers. Remediated. Blended. Seeded. Or carrying heavy metals. Whether it's marketed as premium or sold as budget, the result is always the same: thin margins, product that sucks, and a runway that disappears the moment regulations tighten or competition dials in.

We've never met a team that decided to produce hot garbage on purpose. Yet budgets, talent gaps, process drift, and margin-destroying deals still put good brands on the boof crew every week.  Looking for something more professional? →

boof

noun · legacy jargon

Poor quality cannabis. Appropriately named — the term traces back to a prison product smuggled in a less-than-flattering manner, degrading under the subprime conditions it was subject to. Properly boofed weed would never pass regulatory compliance, though some would argue there's a market for that too.

The pattern we keep seeing

Some blame the market. Leadership replaces the grower, the genetics, or the equipment — guessing at the problem.

Growers play their own blame game. Budgets, limitations, and compensation gaps push out real talent and breed internal malfunction. And POOF — suddenly your team, your brand, or your product is on the boof crew.

Boofy operations. Deals that destroy margins. Poor inventory accuracy. Management problems, or process ones. We've seen it often enough to recognize the patterns, and we offer solutions that have been field-tested and industry approved.

The method

The Six P method

Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance

Soup to nuts means we've been nearly everywhere in this industry, and we're happy to point you in the right direction or rewrite your business plan entirely. If you've got something we've seen, we can handle it. If you've got something new, we want to see it.

Three pillars

Where operations quietly go wrong.

01 / OPERATIONS

Crop steering to full SOP teardown

Soil and nutrient analysis, individualized IPM, pathogen ID, genetic banking, and HLVd therapy through trusted partners. Plus the dry, cure, processing, and inventory pitfalls that quietly eat margin. Your methods stay proprietary.

Boof-proof operations →

02 / COMPLIANCE

Seed-to-sale data that actually works

Traceability without the gimmicks. Navigate shifting regulations, license and ownership changes, and location pitfalls across 10+ states — without burning the leadership bandwidth you need for trajectory and key metrics.

Boof-proof compliance →

03 / BRANDS

Make the brand match the jar

Loud or tasteful. Elegant or heavy. Product, messaging, and reputation have to line up. Packaging that survives every regulatory landscape, and launches built to last past the first compliance check.

Selected work

Built from the ground up, in more than one state.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO

Good Weed

Co-founded and operated. Vertically integrated, no-till, small batch — built to a $0.06 per gram production cost with zero pesticides and no failed pesticide tests. The living-soil system ran 6 to 15 full cycles on the same soil.

NASHVILLE, TN

Grown Proper

Designed Nashville's only no-till vertical cultivation facility. They were among the first THCa producers in the state, paired with e-commerce and a storefront in one of the city's best retail corridors — a playbook other operators are running profitably today.

MINNESOTA

Early-market licensing

Formulation, compliance, and packaging work completed ahead of the Office of Cannabis Management standing up — positioning the operation among Minnesota's very first licensees, which was the stated goal from day one.

Where we've worked

Ten state markets, and counting.

Indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse. Medical and adult-use. Every regulatory regime has its own personality, and we've learned most of them the hard way so you don't have to. Dashed states are markets we're actively pursuing.
