Who we are

Tanner “Sunburn” Budde is an Iowan who grew up on some of the most fertile ground on Earth and watched it get farmed like a factory. He came into cannabis in 2011, trained three years under the Stanley Brothers of Charlotte's Web, and founded SBJ in 2014.

Good Weed was the proof of concept. His last vertical, co-founded and run in Colorado Springs: vertically integrated, no-till, small batch, living soil, zero pesticides. Built and proved on his own P&L in 2017–2019 — not a client engagement. When we tell you a system works, it's because we ran it ourselves first.

Then he took the lens to new sites. In Nashville he designed Grown Proper, the city's only no-till vertical cultivation facility and among Tennessee's first THCa producers. In Minnesota, formulation and packaging work completed before the Office of Cannabis Management stood up positioned that operation among the state's very first licensees.

Then into the lab. At Verne Bioanalytics he designed, stood up and launched a commercial sales program from scratch, and came out fluent in what plant-health diagnostics can actually tell an operator — qPCR, latent pathogen risk, tissue culture, biobanking, facility monitoring. That's the lens SBJ brings now: an operator's eye, backed by what the lab can see.

What we believe

Principles over profit. We never trade the integrity of the plant, the patient or the consumer for a cheaper margin. Clean margins come from clean systems.

Quality in, quality out. Processing doesn't clean a plant; it concentrates it. Quality is decided in the soil, not salvaged in the lab.

Grow it like it's alive. Biology cycles; bottles provide. A biological system is best served by biological mechanisms.
